Why you need a Website.
If you have been looking for a way to earn money from home and have done very much research at all, you have probably been told at some point that it it possible to make a lot of money online without a website. Well, you can make money online without a website, but, it would be a short lived proposition.
You really need a website because it is your base of operation online. Your site is the way you communicate, connect and interact with your audience, no matter what your end goal is. Without a website, you really have no avenue to communicate to your audience the message you want to deliver to them.
Once you have a website online and hopefully providing interesting and engaging content, you build trust and rapport with your visitors. You can then present them with your own products, quality affiliate products or anything that they want or need. A whole new world of possibilities opens up.
If you want to have a long term business online that will serve you for years to come, it is an absolute necessity to have a website to interact and communicate to your customers.
What a Good Site Structure Looks Like.
So, what does a good site structure look like? Ideally, a good site structure is one that will provide relevant information to the user about the topic which your site is about. For example, if you have a site about jewelry, you could have the site structure broken down into categories or different types of jewelry, then each category would be broken down into the different types jewelry relating to that category.
You could further split each category into specific types of jewelry within each category. There is an endless supply of topics you could write about within this one site.
The key is to have a site that is easy to navigate and not complicated to your visitors. They want the information that you are providing
and they should be able to easily find it.
Also, the major search engines, like Google and Bing/Yahoo will reward you with a better search ranking if your site is easy to navigate and provides a good user experience, after all, that is what they want to provide for their customers also and they very much like a well organized and easy to navigate site that contains the information that their customers are searching for.
How to Write Content that will keep your visitors engaged
You have probably heard that "Content is King", and that is very true, but I think that reader engaging, compelling content is REALLY king! There is no real secret to writing captivating content, just write the way you talk. Speak to your audience as if you are having a personal conversation with them. You should already know what they are interested in (if you don't, then just do a little research on your niche), just engage them and talk to them about exactly the thing they are interested in.
You see, content written in this manner is naturally engaging and easy to read. You don't want your visitors to feel like they are reading a technical manual or legal document. You want to provide entertaining, valuable content that interests them and holds their attention. Just think, it will be easier for them to read and enjoy and also easier for you to write because it is natural. Just make sure your unique personality shows through in your writing because you are a unique person with unique qualities and people need to see this in your writing.
Organize your thoughts before you start writing your content so that it will be easy to follow. Then just start writing and let your thoughts and ideas flow naturally. Before long you will enjoy writing as much as your visitors will enjoy reading it. This also shows you are a real person with your own original ideas which builds trust with your audience.
Use pictures, when practical, to illustrate the points you are trying to make. Also make use of examples and bulleted lists to make your content flow better and easier to read. Make sure your content is original, never copy other peoples' work. It is ok to research your topic, but make sure to put the content in your own words. Getting Traffic(Visitors) to your Website
The next step after building your website and writing some engaging and interesting content is to get visitiors to your website. This could be a training course all by itself. Basically, you need to do some keyword research and find out what people are searching for in your chosen niche and then write content tailored to those keywords.
Some of you may not understand what I mean by keywords. Keywords are the words someone(anyone) would type into a search engine such as google, bing or yahoo to find information that they are looking for. There are literally billions of keywords that people searching for information type into search engines, in fact, there are so many that I would venture to guess that there is a never ending supply and new ones are being created every day by the thousands. So, people are searching for a variety of different things at any given time and if you can provide them with the information that they are looking for, they will visit your site to get it. Check out this video to get a better understanding of how to get visitors to your site.
How to Make your Content More Socially Engaging
I have gotten the question: How do I make my website content more socially engaging so people will share it on social media such as facebook, linked in and twitter? The first piece of advice I can give you is write your content like you are talking to a friend about something, be natural and don't overthink it. It is easier and usually more effective to create content on any subject like this. Another benefit is that you will enjoy writing the content more if it comes more natural to you. Always try to let your personality show through your writing. If you have a helpful short quote, maybe inspirational, or something like that, it would probably make a good facebook share or tweet.
Making a short video explaing your point and illustrating it can also be very helpful in making your content more engaging, you know the types of videos people like to share on facebook, I sometimes go to my facebook news feed just to see if anyone has shared some interesting videos. Also install facebook and twitter buttons on your site to make it easy to share your content to your readers favorite social media site.
Try to add relevant photos to the posts you make on your site, this tends to catch readers attention and make the words resonate better with the reader. I know you have heard that a picture is worth a thousand words and it is true that sometimes a picture can tell a story or get a point across as well or better than the written word.
Make sure your visitors can respond and make comments to your content. This is important so that you can interact with them by answering questions and responding to their comments. How many times have you read an article that allows comments and then read all the comments to see how other people respond to the article by what they say in the comments? I know that I do that quite frequently, I am not quite sure what the draw of reading the comments is, but I just find it interesting to learn how other people give insight to the article by how they respond in the comments. In my opinion, this is the ultimate in social engagement. And can make your content stand out above the rest. You can even take suggestions on how to improve your content from your visitors by using the comments area of the article, invite your readers to make comments, offer suggestions for new topics and give feedback on what they would like to read and explore on your site. Check out this Video for more suggestions on how to make your site more socially engaging.
Ask Your Visitors What They Want
You know, sometimes we make things more complicated than they really are. I know I am guilty of this on more than one occasion. To find out exactly what your visitors want, just ask them. Sounds simple, right? You could incorporate a short survey of about 10 questions asking visitors to tell you the specific content or features that they want and also how they would like to be treated. There are many services out there that do this such as survey monkey as well as a lot of others. You can find them by just doing a google search of the term "survey services" . They are generally very easy to set up and modify to ask the specific questions that you want to ask. You can then take the information gathered from the surveys and create the content or features that your visitors are asking for. It is just plain smart to simply ask people what they want and then give it to them. There is no better way to get a feel of what your visitors or customers are looking for than to do a survey and just ask them, sometimes simple is better.
