So, how do you connect with your audience, find out what they are interested in, discover what their passions are?  The way you find out what your visitors are really interested in and are passionate about is to do a little market research.

Where do they hang out online?  What sites do they frequent?  Where do they spend the most of their time?  Is it on social sites, news sites, entertainment sites or some other type of site?  These are the type of questions that you have to ask yourself when you are trying to create interesting, engaging content to keep your visitors’ interest and hopefully help them with their problems or pursue their passions.

What are Keywords?

What are keywords anyway and what is all this talk about market research?  Keywords are the words people type into a search engine such as google or yahoo to find information that they want.  They can be different from person to person and can change over time. There are literally hundreds of thousands of keywords out there that people type in to find out information on a variety of different subjects.

The good news is that there is literally a never ending supply of keywords and new ones are being typed in every day, so that means there is an unlimited amount  of opportunity for content and visitors for your site. Keywords are really the life blood of your online business and your site because they are how people find your site and connect with you and your business.  The search engines use the keywords people type in to tailor the results you see and also the advertisements on the side.  They use this to create a unique user experience that is not really available anywhere else if you think about it.

How to find out what keywords your market uses

So, how do you find out which keywords your market/visitors use?  There are many different ways that you can do research to find out the words people type in to find information about a particular topic.  Google has a function called google suggest, you may have noticed that when you start typing a word in google some popular suggestions to your search will appear underneath the search box.  This is one way to get new ideas for creating content to get new visitors to your site.

There is also many tools that you can use to find keywords, average number of times the keyword is searched and how many searches a keyword gets.  Google has a free tool just for this, it is called keyword planner, you have to sign up for a free google account to get access to the planner.

Get creative with your research

To get the best keywords, you need to get really creative and dig down to what your visitors really want and need.  Use the tools to find out what they are searching for and what they need.  Just think about where your audience would frequent and go there and see what they are saying, how they speak if you are not already familiar with it.  Try looking on forums and get involved in discussions on whatever your chosen topic is.  Try to learn something about the visitors that you hope to get.  The more you know them and how they think, the better you will be able to serve them with information they want and need.  You see, you have to be a servant in heart, really, you need to honestly care about the people you are serving.  You need to do this to understand fully what their wants and needs really are, if you are any less than this it will show up in your content.

Try sitting down and thinking about someone who is interested in your particular topic area, think about what they would type into the search engine to find out information, to get solutions to their problems.  When you do this, you will find out more about your visitors and learn to understand them. You will gain an increased insight into the way your visitors think and this will allow you to better craft your content towards their interest.
